Expressive Alternative Photography

About the Workshop

This course is for photographers interested in exploring different techniques to free up creativity and allow for chance encounters and the unexpected. We begin by making our own pinhole cameras, which can distort perspective yet offer remarkably sharp detail with a distinctive flair. Pinhole exposures will be made on both paper and film negatives, and we will use these make prints. We will take advantage of the summer sun, learning hand-coated printing techniques that use the sun for exposure; blue cyanotype, van dyke brown and palladium printing. Students can bring existing negatives for printing or shoot new images in the inspiring Vermont landscape and the studio. There will be plenty of time for experimentation and printing to complete a group of images and prints by the end of the week. Open to all levels of photographers.
